Why aren’t the high school attendance boundary changes planned for 2020-21 going into effect?
With the opening of three, new ninth-grade centers next year, the district has decided to hold off on the 2020-21 planned high school boundary changes in an effort to minimize disruption to our students, families and staff. This hold will also allow each of the district’s three high schools to focus their efforts and energy on the successful implementation of their campus’ new ninth-grade center.

If the planned boundary changes aren’t implemented next year, will they be put in place at a later date?
Once the new ninth-grade centers are open, the district’s leadership team will monitor the impact of those new facilities on important student achievement data, including attendance, so that a decision can be made on the best path forward.

In addition, starting this summer and throughout the 2020-21 school year, Superintendent Watson and the district’s school leadership team will be meeting and talking with district families and staff to better understand how the district’s comprehensive high schools can continue to strengthen their programs moving forward.

Information about these planned high school listening tours will be shared with the entire Spring ISD community. Watch for updates throughout the Fall 2020 semester.

My 8th-grade student already met the principal and made plans to attend the high school he/she was zoned to under the planned 2020-21 attendance boundaries. What if he/she still wants to attend that school?
If your student wants to attend the high school he/she was zoned to under the planned 2020-21 attendance boundaries, a district transfer application can be completed for consideration. The district’s transfer process will open in March and run through May, giving students and their families the option to request a transfer. Please note, transportation will not be provided to students who opt to transfer to a school other than their zoned high school.

I’m confused. How can I figure out what high school my student will be attending next year?
Because the new attendance boundaries are on hold, the easiest way to confirm your student’s high school is to visit the district’s Infofinder i tool and type in your address.

So now that the new planned high school attendance boundaries are on hold, do I need to do anything to enroll my child at their current zoned high school?
No, you don’t need to do anything. Student records are linked to your student’s assigned school. If your student already made course selections for next year, that information will also be communicated to the assigned high school and accommodated depending on space and availability.

If your student’s assigned high school does not offer a particular class or program of interest to your student, please reach out to the counselor to determine best options.

My family moved/bought and/or rented a home/apartment based on what the district said was going to happen with the planned high school boundary changes next year. What can we do?
We understand that the decision to put these changes on hold may be unwelcome news for some families. We encourage any families wishing to attend a high school other than the one to which their student is assigned to fill out a transfer application. All transfers will be reviewed and accommodated based on available space.
